The Dish
When Grizzelda's came knocking, they weren't just looking for another pretty logo. They were on a mission to carve out their own slice of Austin's jam-packed restaurant scene – a city where new eateries pop up faster than you can say "queso." They needed restaurant brand design with personality – something that would nod respectfully to Mexican culinary traditions while giving a playful wink to Austin's festive, contemporary vibe. No pressure, right?

The Challenge
Let's be honest – Austin has no shortage of places claiming to serve "the best tacos in town." Grizzeldas needed to cut through the noise with a restaurant brand design that would turn heads without giving people whiplash. The challenge wasn't just about looking good (though that never hurts); it was about creating a visual identity that would have diners posting "just arrived at Grizzeldas!" before they'd even ordered their first margarita. We needed a design system versatile enough to shine everywhere from fancy menus to Instagram stories, all while boosting those all-important profit margins. In other words: make it memorable, make it authentic, and for goodness' sake, make it stand out in a town where "unique" is practically the baseline.

How We Cooked it up
The Secret Ingredient: Research
Before jumping into the deep end of color swatches and typography, I did what any self-respecting designer would do – homework. Lots of it. I grilled the Grizzelda's team about everything from their culinary philosophy to their dream customers (and yes, I took detailed notes while fighting food cravings). I scoured Austin's restaurant scene like a design detective, identifying gaps where our "ATX-MEX" concept could slide in and make itself comfortable. When I presented mood boards to the team, it wasn't just "here are some pretty pictures" – it was the foundation of a restaurant brand design that would actually work in the real world, where people make dining decisions based on vibes almost as much as they do on menu items.

Design Hits the Table
Concept to Customer Experience
Ideas are great, but execution is where the magic happens. I designed menus that subtly guided diners toward the house specialties (and conveniently, the higher-margin items) without making them feel manipulated – a delicate dance of visual hierarchy and strategic placement. The restaurant walls became canvases for murals and signage that didn't just look pretty but told stories and enhanced the atmosphere. The digital presence – from website to social media templates – made sure Grizzelda's looked just as appetizing online as it did in person. Every touchpoint was an opportunity to reinforce the restaurant brand design and make customers feel like they'd discovered Austin's best-kept secret (that they paradoxically couldn't wait to tell everyone about).
